Big Block Construction, Innovative Residential, and Grandeur Housing are thrilled to be finalists for the 2020 Canadian Home Builders’ Association National Awards for Housing Excellence!
Our work on the Cory Villas project has been nominated for the Modular Innovation Award.
Over 700 projects were entered into the competition, which recognizes the best work by Canadian home builders, including new homes, home renovations, community development and marketing.
We’ll be attending the CHBA Awards ceremony in Banff, Alta., on April 3.
Located at 322 Lewin Way in Saskatoon, Sask., the Cory Villas project target was for first-time homebuyers in the affordable, entry-level market.
It was built using modular construction, which is more efficient and environmentally sensitive than traditional on-site stick construction. The cost savings from the shorter build times, less wasted materials, and advanced framing techniques were invested into finishes and energy efficiency upgrades that include ENERGY STAR® furnaces and appliances, LED lights, and high-performance windows and doors.
The eye-catching exterior is notable for its contemporary architecture, south-facing balconies, white-picketed garden entrances, and attractive landscaping. Two colour schemes provide variety and the central colours were chosen to blend in with the neighbouring buildings, while bold highlights provide flair.
The stacked townhouse design allowed us to offset high land costs by increasing density helping keep costs lower. And the garden level condos have a walkout entry that allows residents to access their own semi-private patio space, which is a rarity in condos. The walkout design also creates individual entrances on either side of the building, increasing privacy.
Inside, large windows create bright, open concept spaces, and the homes feature luxury-inspired finishes including quartz kitchen countertops, stainless steel appliances, LED lighting, laminate flooring, plush carpeting, and crown moulding.
