Celebrating community at Round Prairie Elders' Lodge grand opening

December 6, 2021

On Friday, Dec. 3, we gathered with friends, family, colleagues and clients at the Central Urban Métis Federation Inc. Round Prairie Elders' Lodge to celebrate its grand opening.

The mood was jubilant as the community gathered in the space for the first time, including several Elders who had already moved into the Lodge.

The gathering space was packed with well-wishers, giving guests their first look at the incredible building, but most of all, it was a day to honour the Elders who are now starting to move in.

CUMFI President Shirley Isbister speaks to the crowd gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Lodge.

Big Block CEO Alex Miller said it was one of the most memorable, meaningful and beautiful projects he's ever been involved in.

This project was such a success thanks to support from Métis Nation—Saskatchewan, City of Saskatoon, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Indigenous Services Canada, and Indigenous Housing Innovation Initiative (IHII).

We were pleased to see all the media interest in this story; read some of the coverage below.

The Lodge is located on Avenue P and the design is a beautifully modern addition to the neighbourhood.
